I just read this on the Mediamatrix website (beijing 2008 news): " In addition, NION nX, n6 and n3 nodes now ship with upgrades in flash memory up to 2 GB to enable additional storage of audio, project files and background music loops, plus enhanced efficiency for messaging, audio playback, recording and multi-tasking within the NION system."
Can someone detail this a bit?

This is not so much a new NION as it is an upgrade to all of the NIONs.
For people who do not know, the 256MB Compact Flash cards are no longer available. In response to this, we are manufacturing new NIONs with 2GB Compact Flash cards. When we sell through all the existing stock with the 256MB cards, NIONs will start showing up with 2GB cards.
If someone has a NION with a 256MB card, and they want a 2GB card, they should call their dealer. We have 2GB cards available as an upgrade for existing systems (at extra cost, of course).
IMPORTANT NOTE!!!
You can NOT just go down to the local electronics store and buy a shiny new Compact Flash card and stick it in your NION.
The Compact Flash card must be pre-loaded with a specific disk image or your NION will not start up.

Is it possible to make a copy of the CompactFlash on PC for, say, backup reasons?
I would like to be able to copy the system files together with some wav audio files. Can I do that?

If you take the Compact Flash card and stick it in a Windows PC, the PC will not be able to read the card. In fact, it will ask you if you would like to format the card so you can use it. So, of course, this makes it quite impossible to transfer audio files on and off the card.
MediaMatrix does NOT support nor advocate pulling the CF card out of your NION and putting it in a computer of any kind.
The portion of the data stored on the CF that a user would actually want to backup is simply your .npa file.
If you're really bent on voiding your warranty and cloning CF cards, dd should do the trick...
Jason is exactly right, the only thing that you would ever need to back up from the CF card is the *.npa file anyway, so if you have that stored away in a safe place, there really isn't anything to worry about.
